. Abstract. . Background. Maternal cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection at conception can cause congenital CMV (cCMV) infection and substantial morbidity. Although CMV screening is mandated for sperm donors, the risk of acquiring CMV from donor sperm is unknown. Experience with HIV may lead clinicians to expect that standard sperm-washing reduces CMV transmission risk for procedures including intrauterine insemination.

. Abstract. . Purpose. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality among solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Strategies for CMV prevention include universal prophylaxis or preemptive approach. We aimed to evaluate the optimal approach. . . . Methods.

CMV disease, and particularly CMV retinitis, is a frequent and potentially sight-threatening complication in patients living with HIV with CD4+ T lymphocyte count below 100 cells/mm3. The advent of potent HAART has resulted in rapid immune reconstitution for most patients, making CMV infection or disease less problematic in this population.

. Abstract. . Background. Since the HIV epidemic in the 1980s, CMV retinitis has been mainly reported in this context. CMV retinitis in persons living with HIV is usually observed when CD4 + cells are below 50 cells/mm3. This study aims to describe the immune markers of non-HIV-related CMV retinitis as well as to describe its clinical manifestations and outcomes. . . .

Abstract . Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and disease are important causes of morbidity and mortality in transplant recipients. For the purpose of developing consistent reporting of CMV outcomes in clinical trials, definitions of CMV infection and disease were developed and most recently published in 2017. Since then, there have been major developments, including registration of new antiviral agents.

Abstract . Background . There is paucity of information on the role of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection as a cause of stillbirths or childhood deaths in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). We investigated attribution of CMV-disease in the causal pathway to stillbirths and deaths in children

. Background. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a frequent complication after kidney transplantation (KT) and has various effects on recipient and graft survival. Although guidelines recommend anti-viral prophylaxis with ganciclovir or valganciclovir, there is a demand for alternative regimen for CMV prevention. We investigated the effects of a 3-month valacyclovir-based prophylaxis on CMV infection and clinical outcomes in KT recipients using a nationwide cohort.

. Abstract. . Background. Anti-interferon-γ autoantibodies syndrome (AIGAs syndrome) is characterized by disseminated infections involving various pathogens. The clinical manifestations of AIGAs syndrome with Talaromyces marneffei (TM) infection are not yet completely understood. . . . Methods.

. Abstract. . Background. Virus co-infection or reactivation may modify the host response during cerebral malaria. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNAemia has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality in adults with sepsis; however, the impact of CMV DNAemia on adverse outcomes in children with cerebral malaria is unknown. . . . Methods.

… Weeks, Fred Bisso, Thorkild Tylleskär, Kathy Burgoine, Ingunn Marie Stadskleiv Engebretsen . Background Hearing impairment and neurodevelopmental disorders pose a significant global health burden in children. The link between postnatal cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and these outcomes remains unclear. This study explored the association of postnatal CMV infection with hearing and neurodevelopmental outcomes in term infants aged 3 to 10 months.

. Abstract. . Background. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause life-threatening diseases in immunosuppressed patients. Some of the patients with connective tissue disease develop CMV infection, and approximately half of this group has been reported to have received pulsed-methylprednisolone (p-MPSL) therapy.

by M. Gabriela Cabanilla, Ashlee Dauenhauer, Briana St John, Deirdre Hill, Joshua Larson . Background Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection poses a significant risk to kidney transplant recipients. This study investigated CMV disease incidence, outcomes, and management challenges in racial and ethnic minority populations following kidney transplantation.

. Abstract. . Background. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a major infectious complication in solid-organ transplant recipients, particularly in the context of pediatric liver transplantation. CMV serostatus is a well-established risk factor for postoperative CMV infection, with CMV seronegative recipients who receive organs from seropositive donors (D+/R−) being at the highest risk.
BMC Infectious Diseases

. Abstract. . Background. Active cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is associated with poor prognosis in septic patients with critical illness. Patients of septic category are highly likely to benefit from prophylactic antiviral therapy. Nevertheless, the clinical characteristics for CMV reactivation are lacking among septic patients requiring mechanical ventilation.

Despite established antiviral therapy for herpes simplex (HSV), varicella zoster (VZV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) encephalitis, outcome remains poor.
