The International Workshop on Campylobacter, Helicobacter and Related Organisms (CHRO) is a biennial meeting providing an update on the latest research on these very important gastrointestinal organisms. Campylobacter and Helicobacter and related organisms represent a substantial global health burden in terms of morbidity and mortality. The conference always provides a comprehensive program with a diverse array of presentations, panel discussions, and poster sessions designed to highlight the latest researc

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Volume 121, Issue 51, December 2024. SignificanceA major mechanism utilized byCampylobacterfor antibiotic resistance is the CmeABC efflux system that reduces antibiotic accumulation in bacterial cells and hence compromises the efficacy of antibiotic therapy. This study reveals how.

Human campylobacteriosis, is a leading bacterial foodborne infection, primarily caused by contaminated food, especially poultry. In Denmark, notified domestic Campylobacter cases have annually ranged from 3,740 to 5,389 over the past five years, with chicken often identified as the primary infection source. The Danish authorities and the food industry have been actively working together to control Campylobacter and to reduce the risk of human infection from chicken meat. Since 2019, Denmark has routinely us

by Lorena Montero, José L. Medina-Santana, María Ishida, Brian Sauders, Gabriel Trueba, Christian Vinueza-Burgos . Thermotolerant Campylobacter is an important zoonotic pathogen known for causing gastroenteritis in humans, with poultry as its primary reservoir. A total of 468 samples were collected, of which 335 were chicken carcass samples (representing the food component), and 133 were chicken caeca samples (representing the animal component). These samples underwent culture, with colonies examined und

. Abstract. . Background. Campylobacter spp. is a significant etiological agent of bacterial gastroenteritis globally. In Burkina Faso (BFA), the actual impact of this pathogen on gastroenteritis is considerably underestimated, primarily due to inadequate surveillance systems. . . . Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the proportion

The increased antibiotic resistance among Campylobacter spp. strains related to the growing prescription of antibiotics in animals and humans represents a global public health threat (1). Here, we report a case of an in vivo emergence of carbapenem-resistant Campylobacter coli in a persistent bloodstream infection (BSI) in a patient with Good’s syndrome under meropenem treatment (Fig. S1). Four strains from blood cultures were isolated (strain 17744 at Day 1, strain 17745 at Day 11, strain 17746 at Day 28

Aim. Diarrhea is a common disease in immunocompromised patients and can be associated with greater morbidity and even mortality. Therefore, the present study was designed to determine the prevalence of Aeromonas spp., Campylobacter spp., and C. difficile among immunocompromised children. . . . Methods. This study was conducted on 130 stool samples from patients with diarrhea who had def

Campylobacteriosis, the prevailing cause of foodborne gastroenteritis in high-income countries, has seen a global surge. The majority (around 95%) of these Campylobacter infections are caused by Campylobacter jejuni, and to a lesser extent, Campylobacter coli [1].

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a severe disorder characterized by excessive activation of the immune system, leading to hypercytokinemia and damage to multiple organs. We report a rare case of HLH with myopericarditis caused by Campylobacter infection. . . . Case presentation. lysis revealed significant differences in antibacterial activity among the extracts and solvent concentrations. The 100% ethanol extracts had significantly higher zones of inhibition compared to the other solvents. The most inhibitory activity was against Campylobacter spp. (21.33±1.80) for the 80% ethanol root extract. All the extracts of M. citrifolia were found to exhibit moderate antibacterial activity against all the bacteria pathogens. However, Enterococcus faecium, Campylobacter spp., and Bacillus c

, enteric parasitic infections, such as amebiasis and giardiasis, have been reported to be transmitted among men who have sex with men (MSM) [1,2]. Since the 1990s, shigellosis outbreaks have predominantly affected men who have sex with men (MSM) in some industrialized countries. The key risk factors for shigellosis include condomless sex, oroanal sexual behavior, and HIV infection [3,4]. Since 2010, several drug-resistant Campylobacter outbreaks have been reported in North America, primarily among MSM [5].

Methods. We globally synthesized livestock AMR data from open-source surveillance reports and point prevalence surveys stratified for six pathogens (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, non-typhoidal Salmonella, Campylobacter spp., Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium) and eleven antimicrobial classes important in human and veterinary use, published between 2000 and 2020. We also included all livestock species represented in the data: cattle, chickens, pigs

AF estimates. For rotavirus and Shigella, attribution did not meaningfully change. For others like adenovirus 40 & 41, astrovirus, norovirus GII, sapovirus, Campylobacter jejuni or C coli, ST ETEC, typical EPEC, and Cryptosporidium, attribution increased, demonstrating longitudinal data may be informative for pathogens with weak associations between quantity and diarrhea. We further derived accuracy-based, pathogen-specific quantity cut-offs that may improve attribution in the absence of longitudinal data.

We assessed virus exposure by immunofluorescence assay or PCR, and detected bacteria by PCR (Leptospira) or culture (Campylobacter). . . Results. Among the rats investigated for helminths, no heart- or lungworms or Trichinella species were detected and the most common finding was the cestode Hymenolepis nana (in 9.7% of individuals sampled, 28/288).
