Abstract . Background . Due to high prevalence of Kaposi Sarcoma (KS)-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) among people with HIV, KSHV-associated disease (KAD) may be increased after kidney transplantation from donors with HIV (HIV D+) to recipients with HIV (HIV R+).Methods . Anti-KSHV antibodies were measured in HIV R+ and donors with and without HIV (HIV D-) using a 30-antigen multiplex assay within three multicenter kidney transplantation studies.

In contrast, regulatory mechanisms of the viral factors that mimic the cellular factors .

Abstract . Introduction . Human Herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6) DNAemia is not rare in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. However, evidence for a causal association of HHV-6 DNAemia with organ disease and with mortality is limited in this setting. In ICU patients with HHV-6 DNAemia, we sought to 1) assess the prevalence of HHV-6 disease, 2) identify risk factors for HHV-6 disease and 3) investigate its association with mortality. Methods .

. Background. Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus-inflammatory cytokine syndrome (KICS) is a rare, life-threatening condition associated with Kaposi sarcoma and systemic immune dysregulation induced by Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8). With a mortality rate approaching 60%1 (Goncalves, Ziegelbauer, Uldrick, Yarchoan in Curr Opin HIV AIDS 12(1):47–56, 2017), KICS poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

. Introduction. Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) infects approximately two-thirds of the global population under the age of 50 years. Although widely prevalent, the possible implications of HSV-1 in neurodegenerative diseases, especially dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, remain poorly understood. This review seeks to elucidate this association and explore the potential benefits of preventing or treating herpesvirus infections on dementia risk.

Abstract . Background . Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is a highly infectious, globally prevalent lifelong infection. Despite advancements in understanding its epidemiology, the assortativeness in the age-dependent transmission patterns remains unclear. This study aimed to estimate the degree of assortativeness in age group mixing for oral-to-oral HSV-1 transmission within the United States (U.S.) population. Methods .

Abstract . Background . Herpes zoster (HZ) is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular events, but the effect of the recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) on this risk, alone or in combination with antiviral treatment, remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of RZV on the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events following HZ infection. Methods . We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Optum Labs Data Warehouse.

. Objectives. Herpes zoster (HZ) infection is associated with a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including stroke and coronary artery disease (CAD). Patients with diabetes are at an increased risk of MACE, highlighting the importance of studying this population to assess the potential protective effects of HZ vaccination. This study aims to investigate the risk of MACE after HZ vaccination in patients with diabetes. . Design. Retrospective cohort study. . Setting.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is a clinically significant complication in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients. Refractory and resistant (R/R) HSV infections may occur in this patient population, particularly after prolonged exposure to anti-HSV agents.

Abstract . Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is one of the most prevalent viral infections worldwide. In general, host immunity is sufficient to clear viral shedding and recurrences, although it is insufficient to prevent subsequent virologic reactivations. In immunocompromised patients, prolonged and difficult-to-treat HSV infections may develop. The diagnosis of refractory HSV infection is based on the lack of clinical response to nucleoside analogs.

Adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV2), detected in 18 of 31 probable cases, and SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in 22 of 37 of probable cases were the most common infectious agents, followed by human herpes virus 7 (18/33) and adenovirus (20/44). Immunological findings included the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II HLA-DRB1*04:01 allele in 17 of 32 cases. Autoantibodies were found in 15 of 40 patients.
