. Introduction. Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) remain the leading causes of repeated hospitalisations among young disadvantaged Australian and New Zealand First Nations and Timorese children. Severe (hospitalised) and recurrent ALRIs in the first years of life are associated with future chronic lung diseases (eg, bronchiectasis) and impaired lung function.

…HO’s Global Action Plan for AMR [1] to tackle it. The risk of humans acquiring resistance genes from companion animals and vice versa [2] is a very real concern because both are reservoirs of a similar pool of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and there is a significant overlap among the commonly used antimicrobials between humans and companion animals. Furthermore, close physical proximity with pets for prolonged periods at frequent intervals increases the likelihood of bacterial transfer in both directions.

Background. 18Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) CT imaging has been used in many inflammatory and infectious conditions to differentiate areas of increased metabolic activity. FDG uptake differs between areas of normal lung parenchyma and interstitial lung disease (ILD). . Objectives. In this study, we investigated whether FDG-PET/CT parameters were associated with a change in the quality of life (QoL) in patients with ILD over 4 years of follow-up. . Methods.

We report an adenovirus outbreak with unusually severe clinical presentation, particularly in military conscripts and their close contacts. During 1 February–30 June 2024, 129 patients with adenovirus infection were hospitalised, 30 were admitted to ICU, 10 required ECMO treatment and six died. Cases consisted of 75 conscripts (58.1%) and 54 civilians (41.9%). Most samples were type 7 (97/108; 89.8%); all 24 sequenced samples were subtype 7d.

Acute myocarditis has risen among paediatric patients in Italy, with 65 clinically suspected cases reported by 12 centres in 2024, 32 linked to parvovirus B19 (B19V) infection. In 11 cases, B19V was not ruled out despite a concurrent European outbreak. Twenty-nine children required intensive care; eight fatalities occurred. While effective for both severe B19V infection and myocarditis, intravenous immunoglobulins were given in only one-third of cases.
